CNIB Clients in Edmonton Gifted with 3 Laptops and Printer

By electronic recycling association October 9, 2020

The Electronic Recycling Association is proud to have an ongoing partnership with the Canadian National Institute for the Blind (CNIB). They are a non-profit organization driven to change what it is to be blind today. CNIB delivers innovative programs and powerful advocacy that empower people impacted by blindness to live their dreams and tear down barriers to inclusion. Their work as a blind foundation is powered by a network of volunteers, donors and partners from coast to coast to coast.

We were delighted to provide 3 clients with laptops and a printer for one. They were all so excited to receive the gift of a free computer from the ERA.

Their mission

  • To change what it is to be blind through innovative programs and powerful advocacy that enable Canadians impacted by blindness to live the lives they choose.

Their values

  • Empowerment: They take bold, decisive action to move their mission forward and empower people impacted by blindness to find their courage, raise their voices, and realize their dreams.
  • Inclusiveness: They are a community that welcomes all. They embrace one another’s differences and they break down barriers that would exclude anyone from being meaningfully engaged in our world.
  • Passion: They care deeply about what they do because CNIB knows how much it matters. They pursue their goals relentlessly and don’t give up on anyone, or anything.
  • Innovation: CNIB thinks big, take risks, and embraces the change that can accelerate progress and enable success for their clients, volunteers, donors, and employees.
  • Collaboration: They believe that to make change happen, CNIB needs to bring people, ideas, and resources together in new and exciting combinations. Teamwork is fundamental to its success.
  • Integrity: They treat others the way they want to be treated. CNIB is kind, fair, honest, and respectful and maintains open and transparent decision-making in all aspects of their work.

ERA partners with this organization and their campaign called Phone IT Forward throughout the year.

About this campaign:

“Donate a smartphone. Change the life of someone who’s blind.

With millions of smartphones gathering dust each year as users upgrade to newer models, Phone It Forward gives Canadians a unique opportunity to donate their old phones, receive a tax receipt, and empower people who are blind in the process.

Smartphones make a tremendous impact on the lives of people who are blind. Accessible smartphone apps make it possible to do all kinds of things that may have seemed challenging before.

Through a partnership with Fixt Wireless Repair, donated smartphones are wiped to the highest data security standards, loaded with accessible apps, and provided to people with sight loss who need them, along with technical training, discounted maintenance, and data plan support.

To donate your phone, or learn more about Phone it Forward, visit phoneitforward.ca or call 1-833-554-5020.”
