The Electronic Recycling Association (ERA) is pleased to partner with YMCA of Southwestern Ontario for a multi-location electronics collection initiative taking place across Chatham, Windsor, Sarnia, and St. Thomas, Ontario.
From October 7 to October 15, 2026, participating YMCA locations will collect unwanted electronics for responsible recycling, secure data wiping, and potential reuse.
This initiative supports ERA’s mission to reduce electronic waste, extend the useful life of technology, and make responsible electronics recycling more accessible to communities across Southwestern Ontario.
Electronics Collection Events: October 7–15, 2026
ERA and YMCA of Southwestern Ontario will host electronics collection events at the following locations:
- Chatham YMCA – 101 Courthouse Ln, Chatham, ON N7L 0B5
- Windsor YMCA – 300 Ouellette Ave, Windsor, ON N9A 4J1
- Jerry McCaw Family Centre YMCA – 1015 Finch Dr, Sarnia, ON N7S 6G5
- St. Thomas YMCA – 20 High St, St. Thomas, ON N5R 5V2
From October 7 through October 15, unwanted electronics can be brought to these participating YMCA locations.
ERA will provide collection bins and coordinate the pickup of all collected electronics once the collection period is complete.
Responsible Electronics Recycling Across Southwestern Ontario
Old and unwanted electronics can quickly accumulate in homes, businesses, and community organizations.
ERA helps ensure that these items are handled responsibly through electronics recycling, secure data management, refurbishment, and reuse programs.
Electronics collected during the YMCA initiative may include:
- laptops and desktop computers;
- monitors and displays;
- servers and workstations;
- loose hard drives;
- tablets and cell phones;
- keyboards, mice, cables, and other electronic equipment.
Reusable technology may be assessed for refurbishment and given a second life whenever possible. Equipment that has reached the end of its usable life will be responsibly recycled.
Secure Data Wiping for Collected Electronics
ERA also provides secure data wiping services for applicable data-bearing equipment.
Proper data handling is an important part of responsible electronics recycling, especially for computers, laptops, hard drives, tablets, and other devices that may contain stored information.
Through ERA’s secure processing procedures, applicable equipment can be prepared for reuse or recycling while helping protect sensitive data.
Giving Electronics a Second Life
ERA believes that electronics should be reused whenever practical before being recycled.
Extending the life of technology helps reduce electronic waste and can create opportunities for refurbished devices to support charities, non-profit organizations, schools, and community programs.
By partnering with YMCA of Southwestern Ontario, ERA is helping make electronics recycling and technology reuse more accessible in communities throughout Southwestern Ontario.
