The Electronic Recycling Association (ERA) was pleased to fill more of the Big Brothers Big Sisters Edmonton donation request and recently provided them with 15 printers and 14 projectors.  These items will be used to provide low-income families with electronics.

Boys and Girls Clubs Big Brothers Big Sisters (BGCBigs) is a community-supported organization committed to the healthy development of children, youth, and their families by providing safe places, positive relationships, services, and opportunities to develop personal strengths and interpersonal skills that enhance their long-term success in life. BCGBigs Mentoring and After-School programs seek to support vulnerable children and youth challenged by the impacts of poverty. The organization also works in partnership with other community organizations to develop and deliver programs geared to specific populations, such as the immigrant and refugee community, the Indigenous community, and other vulnerable groups.

Club mentoring is defined the relationship between a caring more experienced or wiser volunteer (e.g. adult or older teen) and a child or younger youth. Through participation in educational, recreation and social activities with a volunteer mentor, a mentoring relationship provides a child with support, friendship, guidance, and a constructive role model.

BGCBigs Club programs offer site-based after-school program options in neighborhood club sites and schools. These programs offer safety, positive youth development activities and academic enrichment to support positive self-image and self-confidence, improved academic performance, and engagement in learning.

Summer programming is offered by BGCBigs in partnership with many organizations to support the delivery of summer program activities that engage refugee and immigrant children and youth. The programs link children and youth with mentors of different ages, cultural backgrounds, and interests. Activities strengthen their physical and mental well-being, minimize learning loss over summer months and improve their ability to achieve success in school.

The Electronic Recycling Association (ERA) is a non-profit organization founded in 2004 to address the growing problem of e-waste and the increasing ‘digital divide’. For over fifteen years, ERA has offered simple solutions to help individuals and organizations prevent operational equipment from premature destruction. With a focus on recovery, refurbishment and reuse, ERA continuously supplies charitable groups with donated IT equipment while securely managing the retiring IT assets of organizations and individuals across Canada. We believe that reuse before recycling is critical in managing the waste created by computer hardware, and by offering industry-leading data destruction for all equipment we receive, we have securely repurposed hundreds of tons of equipment. Because not everything ERA receives can be reasonably repurposed, we have partnered with certified recycling organizations to process equipment that has reached the end of its productive life.
