ERA Gives Technology a Second Life Across Alberta
Alberta — August 2026 — The Electronic Recycling Association (ERA), a Canadian non-profit organization founded in 2004, is advancing technology reuse across Alberta while helping reduce electronic waste and bridge the digital divide. Through the recovery, refurbishment, and reuse of electronic equipment, ERA extends the life of valuable technology and redirects devices to charities, educational institutions, community organizations, and other groups that can put them to meaningful use.
ERA recently provided technology donations to organizations throughout Alberta, including 15 laptops to the University of Calgary’s Schulich School of Engineering; 15 laptops, 20 monitors, and five projectors to ACFA régionale de Red Deer; one laptop to Recovery Alberta’s Southern Alberta Forensic Psychiatry Centre; 21 iPads to PACEkids Programs; 10 cell phones to The Mustard Seed; and 20 laptops to Chiniki Community College in Stoney Nakoda Nations. These donations support education, community programming, communication, and access to essential services while ensuring functional technology remains in use.
Demand for technology continues across the province. ERA currently has hundreds Alberta organizations awaiting equipment, including the University of Alberta, EnCompass Community Safety and Wellbeing, Bow Valley College, Stoney Nakoda Child and Family Services Society, Airdrie Disability Resource and Awareness Centre, The Brenda Strafford Foundation, and McDougall House. Donations of laptops, desktop computers, monitors, tablets, cell phones, and other reusable technology can help ERA respond to these outstanding requests and expand access to technology in Alberta communities.
By choosing reuse, Alberta businesses and individuals can reduce electronic waste while creating meaningful opportunities for organizations and the people they serve. ERA encourages businesses and organizations with surplus technology to donate their equipment and help meet the growing need across Alberta. Charities and community organizations in need of technology are also encouraged to apply for a donation.
