ELECTRONIC RECYCLING ASSOCIATION: LAPTOPS FOR UNITED WAY’S FREE TAX CLINIC

By electronic recycling association February 3, 2016

Each year, United Way partners with the Calgary Public Library to offer tax clinics for low-income Calgarians. These free, drop-in clinics are with trained volunteers who walk participants through the process.

This year, United Way asked ERA to provide 12 high-speed laptops for use in the program, and we delivered them today. The laptops will be used by hundreds of Calgarians over the next few months to file their taxes with the help of qualified and knowledgeable volunteers.

The tax clinic pays off in many ways: low-income Calgarians are often eligible for tax rebates and by filing taxes, become eligible for other government benefits and supports, such as Calgary’s low-income transit pass.

You are eligible for free tax clinics at the library if:

  • You are a single person with an income of $30,000 or less
  • You are a couple with an income of $45,000 or less
  • You are one adult with one child and an income of $35,000 or less
  • For each additional dependent, add $2,500 to your income for the sake of determining eligibility
  • Your income gained through interest is less than $1,000
