In an effort to promote sustainable practices and minimize electronic waste’s impact on the environment, the Electronic Recycling Association (ERA) teamed up with the Better Business Bureau (BBB) of Manitoba & NW Ontario, BBB Education Foundation and the Winnipeg Police for a remarkable 3rd annual electronic shedding and recycling event on Thursday, September 14th, 2023. This event, held at Polo Plaza in Winnipeg, MB, marked a significant step towards diverting electronic waste from landfills and contributing to a greener future.
The event held at Polo Plaza’s parking lot served as a demonstration of the potential of collective action in addressing the mounting challenge of electronic waste disposal. The free electronic shedding and recycling event achieved a remarkable feat by diverting an impressive 8000 pounds of E-Waste away from the landfill. This included discarded electronics such as laptops, smartphones, and tablets, all rescued from their destiny in landfills, where they could have contributed to environmental degradation.
Thanks to the dedication of the BBB, BBB Foundation, Winnipeg Police, and our event sponsors, these discarded electronics will not be squandered. Instead, they will be refurbished, ushered into a second life, and put to use for the benefit of local charities within the Winnipeg community.
This initiative serves as an example of the transformative power of collaboration among local organizations with a shared mission. The ERA extends its heartfelt appreciation to the BBB for their invaluable partnership.
