ERA Helps Scout Canada with New Activity That Are Both Educational & Fun

By electronic recycling association March 27, 2023

The Electronic Recycling Association (ERA) is committed to working with the community to educate, raise awareness, and provide resources to help promote community events and initiatives surrounding E-Waste.

Recently Scouts Canada,144 Lake Bonavista Sea Scouts reached out to us for unusable electronics such as computers, VCRs, printers, stereos, and amplifiers so that Scouts can see what the inside of various electronics looks like.  The ERA was happy to donate 12 pieces of unusable equipment.

Armed with safety gear and basic tools, the youth were happily occupied examining and destroying for nearly an hour. After Scout leaders managed to get them to put down their tools, they reminded them that electronic disassembly is only possible with the permission and supervision of an adult. Many of the kids asked if they could take home some of the components they removed. Here are some of the comments from the activity:

“I wish we could do this every week!”; “it looks like a small city in there”; and, “I finally got that big piece off!!!”

Scout leaders also talked about the work of the ERA and the importance of their efforts to not only reduce electronic waste but to support the technical needs of charities.

The ERA works with numerous educational institutions. Through speaking events, volunteer fairs, and collection events, it is our goal to ensure the next generation cares about a sustainable future.

Do you have unwanted electronics that you would like to donate? All you have to do is call ERA to help you dispose of any electronics you don’t have a need for anymore. We will work to refurbish the items and donate them back into the community. Book your pickup today!
