ERA’s Laptop Donation: Empowering AKAFITA Orphanage in Madagascar

By electronic recycling association October 12, 2023

In a world that’s increasingly driven by technology, it’s easy to forget that there are places where access to basic electronic devices can be a game-changer to those in need. This is precisely what happened when the Electronic Recycling Association (ERA) recently made a donation of 4 laptops to the AKAny FIalofan Tangaina Orphanage (AKAFITA) in Madagascar.

Founded on August 24, 1958, the AKAny FIalofan Tangaina Orphanage (AKAFITA) has been a symbol of hope and resilience for orphaned and disadvantaged children in Madagascar. In a country where many children face the harsh realities of life on the streets, AKAFITA has been a beacon of light for those who have no one to turn to.

AKAFITA’s mission is simple yet profound: to provide shelter, love, and care to the orphaned and vulnerable children of Madagascar. For over six decades, they have been at the forefront of this noble cause, working tirelessly to create a safe and nurturing environment where these children can thrive.

The importance of technology in the modern world cannot be overstated. It provides access to knowledge, resources, and opportunities that were once beyond reach. For these orphaned children in Madagascar, these laptops are not just a means of entertainment but a gateway to education, skill development, and a world of information.

One of the most significant ways technology can transform the lives of these orphans is through education. With access to laptops, the children can now explore a wealth of educational resources, access online courses, and even connect with educators from around the world. This empowers them to learn, grow, and dream beyond their current circumstances.  Learning how to use computers and the internet can open up future employment opportunities, empowering them to break free from the cycle of poverty.

The Electronic Recycling Association (ERA) is an organization that stands at the forefront of addressing the digital divide. Our mission is clear: to work with charities across the country and provide refurbished electronics for their programs. This includes laptops, computers, and other essential technology that can be a game-changer for individuals and families facing financial hardship.

Get involved with the Electronic Recycling Association and help work towards a future without e-waste. Invite the ERA to your community cleanup, host an e-waste fundraiser, spend some time volunteering at the ERA, or initiate an e-waste collection at your business.

Consider dropping off your pre-loved electronics to ERA and we will work to donate them to those who need them most!
