ERA’s Laptop Donation Empowers Calgary Housing Company Clients on Educational Journeys

By electronic recycling association September 27, 2023

The Electronic Recycling Association (ERA) recently stepped up to make a significant difference in the life of a low-income mother in Calgary. This donation highlights the importance of bridging the digital divide that exists in Canada, especially among marginalized communities.

The ERA’s recent donated a laptop to a client of the Calgary Housing Company (CHC). This laptop will be a lifeline for a low-income mother who is embarking on the journey of returning to school. Her determination to pursue education as a means to uplift herself and her family is commendable. However, like many facing similar circumstances, she lacked the financial means to purchase a laptop, a fundamental tool for today’s educational landscape.

Calgary Housing Company (CHC) plays a crucial role in administering rental and rent supplement programs on behalf of The City of Calgary and the Province of Alberta. Their mission is to provide affordable housing options for those in need, making it possible for families like the one we’re discussing to have a stable place to call home. CHC manages housing for nearly 10,000 households, which translates to approximately 25,000 Calgarians. Among these households are 10,000 children, highlighting the far-reaching impact of their services.

The Electronic Recycling Association (ERA) is an organization that stands at the forefront of addressing the digital divide in Canada. Our mission is clear: to work with charities across the country and provide refurbished electronics for their programs. This includes laptops, computers, and other essential technology that can be a game-changer for individuals and families facing financial hardship.

Get involved with the Electronic Recycling Association and help work towards a future without e-waste. Invite the ERA to your community cleanup, host an e-waste fundraiser, spend some time volunteering at the ERA, or initiate an e-waste collection at your business.

Consider dropping off your pre-loved electronics to ERA and we will work to donate them to those who need them most!
