ERA and MFT Expand Digital Access at Sainte-Marie School in Madagascar

For many students, access to a computer can open the door to research, creativity, digital skills, and new educational opportunities.

The Electronic Recycling Association (ERA) and Madagasikara Fanantenana Teknolojia (MFT) recently helped expand that access by donating 10 laptops to Sainte-Marie School in Madagascar.

Sainte-Marie School supports children whose families face financial barriers to education. Therefore, the donated laptops will provide valuable learning tools for students who may not otherwise have regular access to technology.

Creating New Learning Opportunities

The laptops will help students take part in a wider range of educational activities.

For example, learners can use the devices to complete assignments, conduct research, prepare presentations, and explore digital resources. In addition, they can develop practical computer skills that will support their future studies and employment.

Teachers can also introduce more technology-based activities into the classroom. As a result, students will have more opportunities to learn, create, and build confidence in a digital environment.

Supporting Students Through Technology Reuse

This laptop donation in Madagascar also demonstrates how technology reuse can create lasting social and environmental value.

Many computers still have years of useful life remaining when their original owners no longer need them. Instead of sending working devices into the recycling stream too early, ERA and MFT help prepare suitable equipment for continued use.

Moreover, reusing computers preserves the materials and energy already invested in producing each device.

A Meaningful Expression of Gratitude

The donation created a memorable moment for the Sainte-Marie School community.

To express their appreciation, the school’s teachers performed a song filled with gratitude and emotion. Their response reflected the importance of the donation and the opportunities it will create for students.

This gesture also showed how technology donations can build meaningful connections between schools, community organizations, and partners working toward a shared goal.

Building a More Inclusive Digital Future

Access to technology continues to play an important role in education. However, many students still face barriers that limit their ability to use computers and digital resources.

Through partnerships and responsible technology reuse, ERA and MFT are helping reduce those barriers. Each donated laptop gives students a practical tool for learning while also keeping functional electronics in use longer.

ERA and MFT thank Sainte-Marie School, its teachers, and everyone who helped make this donation possible.

Together, we can give technology a second life while giving students more opportunities to learn, grow, and prepare for the future.
