Technology moves quickly, but what happens to the devices we no longer need? For more than two decades, the Electronic Recycling Association (ERA) has worked to make sure usable technology gets a second life instead of being prematurely recycled or discarded. Now, ERA is bringing that same technology reuse mission to New Zealand.
Founded in Canada in 2004, ERA is a non-profit organization focused on reducing electronic waste and bridging the digital divide. We work with businesses, schools, government organizations and individuals to recover unwanted computers, laptops, smartphones, tablets and other electronics. Whenever possible, those devices are refurbished and reused, helping charities, schools and community organizations gain access to the technology they need.
Why New Zealand?
Expanding into New Zealand is an important next step for ERA because the need for responsible e-waste management and technology reuse is a global challenge. As organizations continue to upgrade their IT equipment, there is an opportunity to keep more working electronics in use for longer while creating meaningful benefits for local communities.
ERA’s reuse-first model is designed to connect these two needs. Organizations can responsibly retire their unwanted IT equipment while helping create a supply of reusable technology that can support non-profits, schools and community programs. Equipment that cannot be reused can then be directed toward responsible recycling.
ERA also provides organizations with services such as IT asset management, electronics recycling and secure data destruction. Our commitment to responsible operations is supported by internationally recognized certifications, including ISO/IEC 27001:2022, ISO 14001:2015, ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 45001:2018.
Building a Reuse Community in New Zealand
As ERA grows its presence in New Zealand, we look forward to building relationships with businesses, government agencies, schools, charities and community organizations that share our commitment to sustainability and digital inclusion.
Whether your organization has unwanted technology to donate, needs a responsible solution for retiring IT assets, or is a community organization looking for technology support, ERA wants to connect.
