Giving on Giving Tuesday

In honour of Giving Tuesday, we were pleased to donate 300 computers and laptops to communities and organizations throughout Canada. This is ERA’s single largest donation to date and we were delighted to work with Shell Canada to make this donation possible. Giving Tuesday is a global movement which involves volunteering and giving to others less fortunate. This movement takes place directly after Black Friday every year and is seen as the start of the giving season. It’s a time when charities, organizations, individuals, and companies all come together to give back in some shape or form to their communities. For more information on Giving Tuesday please visit their website here.

We held our Giving Tuesday event at the Chiila Elementary School within Tsuu T’ina Nation. In attendance was Michael Crothers (Shell Canada’s President and Country Chair), Jessica Lifely (ERA’s BD and Marketing Manager), Nicole Rabbit (Principal of Chiila Elementary School), Janice Bushfield (Executive Director of Cerebral Palsy Association in Alberta), Lisette Golding-Cooper (Education Director for the Wesley First Nation), Jordie Mark (Representation at Chiniki Community College), Shell and ERA Representatives. We would like to thank each and every one of them for taking time out of their busy schedules to attend.

Michael Crothers, President and Country Chair of Shell Canada expressed, “A lack of access to computers and the Internet can limit opportunities for those already in vulnerable situations,” said Michael. “We are delighted to be celebrating Giving Tuesday – a global day of giving –  by making a local contribution; providing $1 million in surplus computers to deserving organizations across Canada, particularly to schools in Indigenous communities.”

The largest number of recipients from today’s donation were indigenous organizations and schools within Alberta which included Tsuu T’ina Nation, Wesley First Nation, Sunchild First Nation, Swan River First Nation, Rocky Native Friendship Centre Society, Chiniki Community College and Cerebral Palsy Association in Alberta. Other fortunate organizations to receive donations outside Alberta included Britannia Lodge, Vision Loss Rehabilitation Saskatchewan, Care and Share Lounge and the Quebec Writers’ Federation.

Bojan Paduh, Founder of the Electronic Recycling Association, states: “We are thrilled to work alongside Shell Canada for the biggest donation the ERA has organized. On a daily basis, we donate to charitable organizations throughout Canada. However, today is extra special as we are part of a donation blitz that will see 12 deserving communities and organizations across Canada receive IT equipment.”

Shell and ERA

We look forward to working with Shell Canada in the coming months to donate more electronics to other communities and organizations in need of laptops and computers.
